The History of Sanuki Olive Wagyu
Sanuki Olive Wagyu originates from the Kagawa Prefecture in Japan, specifically, Shodoshima Island, which is known for producing 99% of Japan's olive oil. The region has a long tradition of breeding cattle, and in the 1980s, a local farmer named Masaki Ishii began experimenting with feeding his cattle a diet that included olive pulp, a byproduct of olive oil production. The olive pulp provided the cattle with a unique blend of antioxidants and monounsaturated fats, which had a profound effect on the meat's flavor and texture.
The resulting meat was so exceptional that it quickly gained a reputation as one of the best types of beef in Japan. Today, Sanuki Olive Wagyu is considered a delicacy and is only available in limited quantities.
